Game tournaments are fun competitions between several players who compete based on skill level. A game should be chosen that has a large following with a clear objective. Racing and fighting games should be selected over role playing games and puzzles. In order to have a game tournament you must first have multiple people who are all very good at one game. This is important because it evens out the playing field. There is no point in having novice players play advanced ones because the outcome is usually the novice losing to the more advanced. No one likes watching a player destroy another when participating in tournaments.
If you want to gain players outside of your normal playing circle you will need to find them. Advertising, going to the arcade and gaming stores can all help draw in new players. Once the players are set you will need to create a tournament bracket. The bracket will be used to determine who plays who and when. Each winner will go on the the next round to face another winner who beat their opponent. It may be helpful to have each player pay a small fee that could be used towards refreshments and/or a tournament prize for the winner. Betting on winners can also bring in extra money however doing so may be illegal in your state. If at all possible extra accessories should be available for players but it’s suggested that they bring their own that they are used to using. Promotional items and giveaways are great to ensure future tournaments have a large turn out. This way even if a player is eliminated they can still walk away with something to show for their time. Game tournaments have many benefits that seasoned gamers can enjoy while participating.
